Eleni Pavlidou
Eleni Pavlidou is an architect and educator. She has been educated at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London from where she graduated with distinction.
Eleni has been practicing architecture since 2007. For over a decade she worked in the United Kingdom with the internationally recognised firms Wilkinson Eyre Architects and Zaha Hadid Architects where she gained extensive experience in the design, coordination and construction of large scale buildings. She led multidisciplinary teams combining innovative architectural concepts with engineering principles for the realization of a number of award winning projects such as the iconic Battersea Power Station.
In parallel, she developed a special interest and skills in the design and fabrication of complex, non-standard architectures and worked closely with engineers and specialist fabricators for the development and construction of such projects. At the core of her approach is an interest in how architectural ideas can be combined with engineering, new technologies and cutting edge fabrication methods in order to produce design innovation.
In 2018 she returned to Greece where she established her own practice. Since then she has worked on a wide range of projects. Her previous experience in high profile international projects has proven to be key in a number of award winning competitions entries such as the New Research Centre for the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics and the new Social Housing Complex for the Cyprus Land Development Corporation in Larnaka.
Parallel to this her ability and experience in working in complex urban and historical contexts has been valuable in a number of planning sensitive projects such as the Z hotel, a new built boutique hotel in the Historic centre of Athens, Santorini Rocks, a new Hotel and Villas Complex in Santorini.
Eleni’s view to architecture continues to evolve with a focus on the integration of innovative architectural ideas in complex urban and historical environments. This along with the idea that architecture can contribute to placemaking and the formation and reinforcement of local communities are two key axes that the studio work is developed around.
In addition to practicing architecture, Eleni’s interest in education led her back to the Architectural association where she co-taught the University of Pennsylvania London studio from 2008 until 2016. The studio was an advanced Architectural Design Studio taught at the Architectural Association in London for students coming from the Graduate Architecture Department of University of Pennsylvania. Topics engaged aspects of urban life and urban form in London, and varied from year to year.
